Protecting yourself from idenity theft let's get started.


Okay, lets start with some of the basic things you can do to help protect yourself from identity theft. Over the next several post we'll go in to more detail on some of these and other security topics to make you a more tech security savvy.


ü  Monitor credit and bank accounts closely

ü  Don't over-share on social networking websites like Facebook or LinkedIn. Set the privacy settings for these site to the highest level and don’t share to many facts. Does your real birthday really need to be on there?

ü  Maintain anti-virus and anti-malware software

ü  Handle financial documents with care. Always shred before throwing these away.

ü  Create strong passwords. Be sure they have spaces, special characters, and lowercase and uppercase letters. Never use a real word you could find in the dictionary.

ü  Be careful with unsecured Wi-Fi. Never access anything with sensitive information like you bank account over the free Wi-Fi at the coffee shop or store.

ü  It always phishing season online! Read emails carefully before clicking on links or attachments, especially asks for personal or financial information.
